“I am a nurse at St. Johns hospital. I have grown up in Trinity church and have been volunteering with New Hope since 2008! I began volunteering in the summer camps and canoe trips and have been volunteering consistently ever since. I take advantage of many New Hope volunteer opportunities, but my personal favorite is still summer camp. Some of the most impactful moments I have are working with the campers who need a little extra help with behavioral issues. Each time I would see a camper use a technique we’d previously talked about to help with anger, frustration, or fear – I would celebrate! Seeing them grow from year to year and develop healthier coping skills as they grew in the New Hope program is one of my favorite parts of New Hope! I love having campers I’ve seen grow since they were very young come back and become Counselors in Training, some of them even being those campers who had to grow into healthy behavior skills. It is those young adults who give back to the younger generation of campers in the best ways. I’ve been so fortunate to be able to have even the smallest role in the development of some of the finest young people I’ll ever know as I’ve seen them grow up within the New Hope Programs. I’ve been out at camp 11 summers and hope to do at least 11 more”

New Hope could not survive without the hard work and dedication of our Americorps members. Americorps/Vista engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community groups across the country. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 1 million AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.4 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing more than 2.3 million volunteers for the organizations they serve. Our AmeriCorps team is vital in our success as a program, and in our impact in the Tulsa schools and community.
